J.D. Vance was thrust into the political spotlight when Presidential candidate Donald Trump announced that he would be his VP running mate on July 15. Since then he has made headlines for his commentary on American family life disappearing in America, lamenting “childless cat ladies” trying to run the country. From novelist and venture capitalist to politician, let’s review just how much J.D. Vance is worth and how he managed to accrue his small fortune.

How Did J.D. Vance Acquire His Net Worth?

Vance boasts an impressive net worth from his many business ventures. He began a career in venture capitalism after graduating from Yale Law School and serving in the U.S. Military as a Marine. He launched his own firm during this time.

His net worth increased significantly with the publishing of his New York Times bestselling memoir “Hillbilly Elegy”. He has received hundreds of thousands of dollars in book royalties since the book was published in 2016. The memoir grew in popularity when it was turned into a film on Netflix starring Glenn Close and Amy Adams in 2020.

Then in 2022, Vance earned about $1 million between his U.S. Senate salary, his venture capital firm, and his book royalties in combination with his real estate rental fees and stocks.

The Republican V.P. candidate also owns stock in various companies and cryptocurrency.
