Thousands of Christians Sign Petition to Impeach Justice Clarence Thomas

Thousands of people have signed a Christian petition seeking to impeach Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas.

This petition was made by a Christian organization that fights against Christian nationalism in the United States. For the last few years, Thomas has been under intense scrutiny, thanks to the revelation of his undisclosed gifts and trips from billionaires.

Impeaching Thomas

Faithful America put together this petition to push Congress members to impeach Justice Thomas, pointing to the articles of impeachment that House Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez announced earlier this month.

So far, this petition has more than 7,400 signatures, only a few days after it was released.

AOC’s Impeachment Articles

According to the impeachment articles brought forth by Ocasio-Cortez, Thomas is being taken to task for allegedly taking a number of gifts from billionaires, most notably Harlan Crow.

Thomas has long defended himself against these accusations, stating that the gifts Crow gave him were “not reportable.”

Thomas’ Wife’s Actions

However, these articles of impeachment also cover the reported actions of Thomas’ wife, Virginia “Ginni” Thomas, during the 2020 presidential election.

Ginni Thomas allegedly pushed for former President Donald Trump to refuse to concede the election to President Joe Biden, going out of her way to try to keep Trump in the White House.

Thomas Refused to Recuse Himself

According to Ginni Thomas, her husband had no idea that she made these moves to keep Trump in office.

However, many critics wanted Thomas to recuse himself from cases involving Trump’s 2020 election, as they felt he wasn’t nonpartisan in the matter. Thomas never agreed to recuse himself. Now, these actions are also attached to the articles of impeachment he faces.

A Christian Petition Against Thomas

Thousands of Christians have now signed a petition asking Congress members to support the articles of impeachment that Ocasio-Cortez has put forth.

This petition reads, “As a member of the Christian organization Faithful America, I am deeply concerned by the corruption crisis on the U.S. Supreme Court, particularly the unreported gifts from Christian-nationalist activists and the refusal of justices connected to support of January 6 to recuse themselves from related cases.”

Petition Also Targets Alito

This Christian petition has also asked for Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito to be impeached, as well.

Similar to Thomas, Alito has faced a number of different controversies in the past few years, which many critics have stated makes him unfit to continue to serve as a Supreme Court Justice.

Why Alito Could Be Impeached

The articles of impeachment against Alito deal with the undisclosed luxury trips he received from a wealthy donor.

Just as many believe that Thomas should have disclosed his goods and travels, critics also feel that Alito should have disclosed who was giving him gifts.

Alito’s Flag Controversies

Perhaps most notably, these impeachment articles also deal with the controversial flags that were flown at two different homes Alito owns.

During the days before Biden was inaugurated, an upside-down American flag was seen flying outside of his Virginia home. Meanwhile, last summer an “Appeal to Heaven” flag was seen outside his New Jersey vacation home.

Alito’s Wife Is to Blame

Once these flag controversies became public, Alito came out to reveal that his wife was to blame, as she was the one who flew these flags at their homes.

He explained that his wife only flew the upside-down American flag after a dispute with a neighbor. This explanation didn’t do enough to quell concern, and detractors called for him to recuse himself in cases dealing with the 2020 election — something he didn’t do.

Restoring Integrity

This petition further calls for congress members to impeach Thomas and Alito — and to help restore integrity to the Supreme Court.

“I urge you to co-sponsor newly introduced articles of impeachment against Justices Clarence Thomas and Sam Alito, so that we can begin to restore integrity to the high court and usher in a time when justice for all truly does prevail in our nation,” the petition says.

Will Thomas and Alito Be Impeached?

Though this Christian petition has already received thousands of signatures — and though Ocasio-Cortez is pushing for these two justices to be impeached — it is unlikely that Thomas and Alito will be removed from the Supreme Court.

As the Republicans currently control the House, it is highly unlikely that these articles of impeachment will pass.
