    This week, darkness fell unexpectedly across Venezuela, hitting hard in Caracas and sprawling into Táchira, Mérida, Barinas, and Zulia. 

    Residents found themselves in a sudden blackout, coping without electricity as it gripped various corners of the nation.

    The power outage? An act of sabotage, says the Venezuelan government. 

    President Nicolas Maduro’s team was quick to declare the blackout an intentional act of “electrical sabotage,” pointing fingers at unnamed disruptors.

    In the same statement where the blackout was described, it was suggested that disrupting public services is a tactic employed by opposition groups. 

    Freddy Nanez, Venezuelan Communications Minister, emphasized, “nobody will take away our peace and tranquillity of the Venezuelan people.”

    Echoing through the streets of Venezuela are the sounds of protest, following hotly contested election results favoring President Maduro. 

    Doubts and anger swirl among the crowds, pushing back against what they see as a stolen election.

    The election on June 28 was highly controversial, with international observers and several nations criticizing the process and results. 

    Allegations have surfaced suggesting Maduro’s opponent, Edmundo González, actually received significantly more votes.
