Christian Petition Condemning Conservative Religious Attacks on Kamala Harris Has Thousands of Signatures

By: Julia Mehalko | Last updated: Aug 26, 2024

A Christian petition rebuking conservative religious attacks on Vice President Kamala Harris has now received more than 13,000 signatures.

This petition has called on other Christians to stop their attacks on Harris — who is now the presumed presidential candidate for the Democratic Party.

An Organized Effort to Rebuke Christian Nationalism

The organization Faithful America has created this petition. The left-leaning group was created to oppose what they see as the rise of Christian nationalism in the United States.

This specific petition goes after many conservative Christians who have attacked Harris by using scripture — something that the group says should never be happening.

Using Scripture to Attack Harris

The organization has pointed to many instances where Christians — and even Christian pastors and religious leaders — have attacked Harris using scripture and by calling her Jezebel.

Televangelist Lance Wallnau has said that the vice president represents “the spirit of Jezebel in a way that will be even more ominous than Hillary [Clinton] because she’ll bring a racial component, and she’s younger.”

Christian Pastors for Trump

Meanwhile, Jackson Lahmeyer, the head of the group Pastors of Trump, posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, “Both Joe + the H* gotta go.”

Lahmeyer has claimed that because Democrats have discuss Trump’s past, he can also go after Harris’ past relationships.

Christians Will Never Vote Again

At various presidential campaign events, Trump has told those in the crowd that they’ll never have to vote again if they vote for him in November.

These remarks were made at a Christian event, where he said, “In four years, you don’t have to vote again, we’ll have it fixed so good you’re not gonna have to vote.”

Trump’s Claims Against Harris

At similar events, Trump has made claims against Harris to try to win over voters, especially those who might be undecided.

In these claims, Trump said that Harris is an extreme liberal who planned on imposing her views on the U.S. This hasn’t been proven.

Christians Fight Back

After many of these comments were made by known Christian leaders, Faithful America put together this petition to defend Harris from these biblical attacks.

The petition reads, “Now that Vice President Kamala Harris is the presumptive Democratic nominee who will take on Donald Trump, the far-right — including some pastors — has gone into overdrive, twisting Scripture to attack her with vile racist and sexist slurs like ‘Jezebel.’”

Using Jezebel to Go After Harris

The petition further insinuated that many Christian leaders were inaccurately saying that Harris was a Jezebel-like character.

Faithful America’s petition added that they’ve cast Harris “as Jezebel, a Biblical character long used as a racist and sexist trope to attack powerful women.”

A Dangerous Precedent?

The petition also explained that Christian leaders aren’t following the Gospel when they attack Harris like this. Plus, they’re worried this could become a dangerous situation.

The petition claimed that the attacks “run counter to the teachings of the Gospel, are dangerous and dehumanizing and risk turning into real-world violence.”

Sexist Claims Against Kamala Harris

Harris has been subject to sexist attacks over the years, but since she began her run for President, these attacks have been ramped up by the opposition.

Some have even gone as far as to say she has slept her way to the top, a comment that has often been made about women in power to try and demean them and their hard work to get to the top.

Christians Uniting Together

Thus, this petition was made to allow fellow Christians to unite together to defend Harris against what they consider to be Christian Nationalist preachers and leaders.

“We must all unite against the right’s attacks and speak out against those using hate, intimidation and threats of violence to divide us and consolidate their power for their own greed,” the group says.

Christians for Kamala Live Event

Harris has many Christians’ full support, so much so that the Christians for Kamala group decided to host a live event on August 12 at 8 p.m. ET.

The group believes Harris embodies Jesus and his teachings in ways that Trump and his party cannot. The event had various speakers who hoped to inspire voters to vote for Harris in November.

Harris Rises in the Polls

These attacks come as many new polls have seen Harris rise in her fight against former President Donald Trump.

Previously, Harris was either behind Trump in the polls or dead even. Now, many have shown that she’s made some ground — and is even polling higher than the former president in many battleground states.

Enthusiasm for Harris Grows

Analysts have explained that these polls indicate that many Democratic voters have great enthusiasm for the presidential race now that Harris has entered the picture.

However, analysts have also claimed that, as long as Harris continues to rise in the polls, these low attacks may continue.

Previous Doubts Surrounding Kamala Harris

Prior to this rise in support for Harris Democratic voters had some doubts about her ability to win the presidency.

Only a third of voters believed she could win the presidential race. However, since this poll, the number of people supporting Harris has risen.

Republicans Sound the Alarm

Some conservatives have tried to get their party to only attack Harris based on her policies. So far, that hasn’t seemed to work.

On X, conservative commentator Tomi Lahren wrote, “I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but making Kamala a martyr for her race and gender is going to really backfire on the Trump Campaign. It’s such an unforced error. The strategy is only going to allow Kamala to escape her radical record and radical policies.”

Trump’s Ability to Win Over Voters

The issue for Harris and the Democrats is that Trump is able to win over voters by knowing exactly who to target and what to say to them to get them to vote for him.

For the most part, these are white working-class voters. He can rile up an anger inside them that might not have previously been there, making them feel frightened that anyone else getting into power will threaten them and their status in America.

Comparing Harris to DEI

DEI has been a source of contention in the U.S. for quite some time, with many schools, colleges, universities and businesses getting rid of these practices due to fears of them being too woke.

Now that Harris is running for President, some headlines have referred to her as being a “DEI President,” potentially in the hope of stirring up hatred.

Kamala Harris Is Unqualified to Be President

Some political commentators have even claimed that Harris is unqualified to be President despite her education and experience in politics.

Harris attended Howard University and the University of California Hastings College of Law and has been California’s attorney general, a U.S. Senator and Vice President. While this sounds impressive and makes her more than qualified, others still claim that she needs to do more.

The Race Against Trump

Biden was forced to step down from the presidential race due to Democrats’ concerns over his ability to beat Trump and serve a second term as U.S. President.

The main issue has always been swing states, which could go either way. Since Biden has stepped down, Harris has seen a growing amount of support for her campaign, with Democrats hoping it can result in a win.

Trump Is Worried

When Biden was still in the presidential race, Trump and the Republican party weren’t too worried about it and believed they could win.

However, when Biden stepped down and Harris replaced him as the Democratic candidate, the party became increasingly worried. They decided to ramp up their attacks on Harris in the hope that this would help them win.

A Leader That Tells the Truth

Trump has launched continuous attacks against Harris, which have significantly increased since it was revealed she would be running against him for the Presidency.

When she was at a Black sorority event in Houston, Harris told the crowd they deserved a leader who would tell them the truth. This came directly after Trump had made comments regarding Harris’ ethnicity.

Trump’s False Claims Against Harris

Before Harris’ event, Trump had made some scathing comments about her. He had claimed that she never mentioned her Black identity until it became a political advantage for her to do so.

At the time, Trump claimed he only knew of her Indian heritage and said she had only ever mentioned that. He then claimed he had only noticed her mentioning she was Black during her political career. Harris dismisses these claims as completely false.

Harris Faces Ongoing Criticisms and Attacks

Ever since President Joe Biden stepped down from the 2024 presidential race — and then endorsed Harris to take his place — Harris has faced waves of criticisms and attacks.

Many Republican leaders, most notably Trump, have attacked her personally and even questioned her race. These types of attacks may continue as the country nears the November election.
